SPORTS MEDICINE

It is widely acknowledged that inactivity makes you grow older faster.
Physical inactivity can lead to a number of diseases (e.g. hypertension, diabetes). People who exercise regularly develop stronger muscles, bones and joints; moreover, the body releases chemicals called endorphins which not only make them feel better but also have a proven anti-depressive effect, and can even help fight cancerous diseases.
Sports medicine specializes in preventing, diagnosing and treating injuries connected with sports and/or exercise.
In recent years, the significance of exercise has increased – especially among older people. The elderly work out more regularly – some even on a competitive basis. These days everyone is increasingly engaged in their jobs and/or family lives. As not enough time is left for regular training, a disparity can arise between competitive athletic ambitions and actual physical conditioning. This, in turn, can often lead to injuries and pain. In the majority of cases, muscle strains and joint injuries can be treated by conservative therapy. In other cases (more rarely) a surgical approach may be recommended, e.g. for meniscus tears or severe ACL injuries.
Physical well-being is essential for exercise to continue to be effective and healthy.
Along with surgical and non-surgical therapies for sport-related traumas, our doctors at ORTHOPAEDIE BAVARIA offer medical checkups along with specific suggestions for whichever sport is involved (also incl. a healthy diet). Thereby, potential sport-related injuries and complaints can be discussed thoroughly and kept to a minimum.
